Social Bookmark Case Study Results

In order to determine the value of social bookmarking sites, I am running a case-study to see how fast the links from these types of sites are indexed (Social Bookmark Case Study).  For the case study, I created a simple Squidoo page (Powerful Worship Songs) that I could add to the various social bookmarking sites.

This post documents the result of the case study and shows that some social bookmarking sites are much better at getting indexed than others.  One caveat to this case study, is that fact that I directly linked to each entry from the original post.  This may have helped the entries get indexed faster than they would have otherwise.  Here are the results based on Yahoo's site explorer:

  1. StumbleUpon
  2. Reddit
  3. Digg
  4. www.lensroll.com: Indexed in 10 days.
  5. www.squidom.com: Indexed in 2 days.
  6. www.nfer.org: Indexed in 4 days.
  7. www.pageranked.com: Indexed in 8 days (deindexed in 20 days).
  8. www.bookmarkshub.info
  9. www.free-sitesubmit.com
  10. www.blogdup.com
  11. www.lhzyy.net: Indexed in 6 days (deindexed in 15 days)
  12. www.hibo5k.com: Indexed in 3 days.
  13. www.jotlinks.com
  14. www.geofeedz.com
  15. www.blurpalicious.com: Indexed in 4 days (deindexed in 17 days).
  16. www.sticktothis.com
  17. www.hubmarks.com
  18. submitbookmark.info
  19. birat.net: Indexed in 3 days (3 links).
It appears that using social bookmarking sites is a little hit and miss.  Some of the sites seem to get indexed fairly quickly, and others seem to get buried.  I am also concerned with how fast the links become de-indexed as the entries get buried.  I will keep updating this page with the results over the next month.
